Personally I've never thought games need to be more immersive to be more enjoyable. I've found that people generally split into two camps on that issue. And it's entirely about making games more immersive. VR isn't about enhancement or acceleration, but about a different way to interact with and experience games (and software, the 3D painting stuff seems cool). #Xonotic forums scripting software#It was all about making those pretty, textured 3D games run at acceptable speeds back when unaccelerated software implementations couldn't do much better than the pseudo-3D of Doom. 3D acceleration used to be laughed off as a niche, and that no one would support it, and initially there were so many different APIs for it, and you only hoped that you had ended up with a card that most games would support.I don't remember anyone saying 3D acceleration was a niche, even if not everyone thought 3D games were their thing. Quoting: slaapliedjeThis kind of reminds me of when 3Dfx cards were first coming out. #Xonotic forums scripting Ps4#I am looking forward to the new Google stuff next week that will be likely much cheaper, and I think the PS4 HMD will be by far the most popular as it is good enough for people to enjoy VR with it, but doesn't cost an arm and a leg (and I have never owned a Playstation nor will I change that, but the current PC HMDs are clearly over-engineered and too expensive). Ok not great, but nothing really horrible about it either and definitely good enough for the WOW effect and some simple, fun games. #Xonotic forums scripting 720p#Not sure why they do that (scaring people from trying it seems a bad idea), as CardboardVR (the original) is already pretty cool even with a 720p screen. Or rather: "only our $700 headset with <20ms response times is enjoyable at all" etc. who spread that "the hardware isn't there yet" for two years. It's mainly the software that sucks (lots of demos and VR tests, few actual fun games), but you get Occulus etc. ![]() Quoting: BillNyeTheBlackGuyI think VR sucks right now, but even then I found the HTC vive to be an immersive experience. #Xonotic forums scripting drivers#I use AMD open source driver and for me it works like a charm and i do play a lot of games on staem, and the drivers do get better all the time and in a year i think it will be better then catalyst/amdgpu-pro for users that doesn't use old OpenGL compatibility profiling, and i don't think any normal user ever will need to use OpenGL compatibility profiling. Nouveau is getting better but it still lacks a lot of functionality. but hey, can't be worse than nouveau, right?Īnd as my current graphics card gets old, I wanted to switch soon anyway. If you want to squeeze every last fps out of your hardware then nvidia with the proprietary driver is the one you should use.ĪMD open drivers is far better then nouveau, i actually think that the difference in drivers functionality is smaller between AMD open drivers like radeon and nvidia proprietary driver then radeon and nouveau. I would love to go back to AMD, to support them, love that they're doing open source stuff now (also, competition) :)īut I am on Linux for just about one year now, so I have no experience with AMD drivers, but telling from the comments here, it sounds like they're not that good. Quoting: CAPTNCAPSI've always been an AMD user, just with the PC I have right now I switched to Nvidia+Intel (must have been ~2-3 years back now). ![]()
